1972
Dual Mic, Line & Instrument Pre-Amplifier
With fully variable high-pass and low-pass filters, a musical Shape control, switchable mic impedance, and the innovative Lift function for low-level signals, the 1972 goes far beyond a conventional preamp. It captures subtle detail without noise, manages wide dynamic swings effortlessly, and provides creative tonal flexibility at the recording stage. Recognised with a TEC Award nomination at NAMM 2024, the 1972 stands as a modern, professional-grade pre-amplifier built to solve real-world recording challenges.
Pristine Pre-Amplifier with Lift
The Drawmer 1972 Dual Mic, Line & Instrument Pre-Amplifier is designed to make capturing pristine recordings effortless. Delivering exceptional clarity and headroom, it performs equally well with everything from budget dynamic microphones to the most demanding ribbons and condensers.
Unlike conventional pre-amplifiers, the 1972 integrates a set of intelligently designed tools that tackle difficult recording situations head-on. These refinements give it a distinct advantage when working with challenging sources, low-level signals, or fluctuating dynamics.
Capture Difficult Sources with Ease
Beyond essential features such as phase reverse, the 1972 includes powerful corrective and tone-shaping controls that simplify problematic recordings. Fully variable high-pass and low-pass filters allow precise removal of unwanted rumble, hiss, or low-frequency build-up directly at the source.
Complementing these filters is the Shape control — a musical tilt EQ that rebalances bass and treble in a natural, intuitive way. This allows fast tonal correction without the complexity of traditional multi-band equalisation.
Ultra-Clean, Transparent Gain
Built around the latest THAT Corporation technology, the 1972’s dual microphone pre-amplifiers deliver ultra-clean, transparent gain with exceptional headroom. Each channel offers up to 66 dB of stepped gain, supported by an additional ±12 dB output trim for precise level matching.
Switchable microphone impedance ensures accurate matching with any mic, while also enabling subtle tonal adjustment when working with passive, dynamic, or ribbon microphones.
Lift – Record Very Low Signals
Originally pioneered on the 1972, the Lift control makes recording very low-level signals both easy and musical. It transparently raises quieter details without introducing noise or affecting louder passages, preserving natural dynamics even when signal levels vary dramatically.
Technically, Lift leaves signals above 0 dB untouched, progressively increasing gain below that point — adding up to 10 dB between 0 and –30 dB, and a further 10 dB beneath –30 dB. This makes it particularly effective for piano, vocals, ambience, and other dynamically expressive material.
Creative Use of Variable Mic Impedance
With three selectable input impedance settings — 200, 600, and 2400 Ohms — the 1972 supports both precise microphone matching and creative tonal exploration. Different microphones and sources react uniquely, ranging from subtle refinement to more pronounced character shifts, adding an extra dimension of control at the recording stage.
Industry Recognition
The Drawmer 1972 has been recognised by the professional audio industry and was nominated for a prestigious TEC Award at the 2024 NAMM Show — a testament to its innovation, performance, and real-world usefulness.
